Improbable Narratives

Picture a world where the imagined and the real exist side by side. There is the legacy of World War II and many utopian ideas gone wrong. There is bright colorful folklore, rich culture and a lust for life; an innate sense of the absurd and ever-present paradox between good and evil, light and dark, right and wrong, but there is no map to navigate this landscape.

With this body of work I attempted to reconcile the irreconcilable by not reconciling it. I grouped seemingly unrelated cultural references in each image, such as lyrics from songs, quotes from literature and popular media, to present the viewer with a conundrum of our state of being.

We can never get rid of contradictory ideas in a free society, and our success appears to depend on our ability to balance these opposites. This exhibition is a tribute to trying to do just that...to resolve the irresolvable.
